I was thinking the book was written in the 1930's "time zone." In somewhat this argument is necessary, because it gives you examples/ situations that went on during the time. I also read more into the book itself, and learned that the trial in in the book with, Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell, was based on the "Scottboro Trial."
